C. Religious Truth in Public Life

Question 6

Is the Declaration of Independence Christian?

Obviously, the Declaration of Independence is compatible with Christianity. Nothing that it announces conflicts with the tenets of that faith; nonetheless, there is no mention in that document of any supernatural doctrine. One who is not a Christian could affirm all of its religious truths on the basis of reason. The Declaration consists of rational religious truths, not those that are revealed.
